The Lineage of Kalyana Mitrata - Going for Refuge retreat - 9th to 16th January
A Happy New Year to you all! Here at Padmaloka we saw the New Year in the traditional way with a long confession and resolution puja which was the culmination of our annual winter retreat. One of the highlights of the retreat was hearing readings from Bhante Urgyen Sangharakshita's memoirs. There is so much we can learn from Bhante's life. Indeed, it is out of his life - his living through of the Dharma in his life - that our Order emerges from. I have wanted to explore this theme for some time and the inspiration has come to do this on the first Going for Refuge retreat of the year: The Lineage of Kalyana Mitrata. I will be giving a talk each evening, taking a theme from Bhante's life and seeing how that has found expression in our Order. I also want to explore how we can learn from Bhante's experiences and insights to go for refuge to the Three Jewels much more fully and completely right now.
As well as the talks, each day there will be groups to explore things more thoroughly. And there will be meditations, the Going for Refuge and Prostration practice and pujas. As preparation for this retreat, I would recommend reading The History of My Going for Refuge.
I do realise that this is rather late in the day to tell you about the details of the retreat and I am sure that all of you have many things to attend to during such hard times, but I would love it if as many of you as possible could join us in this exploration. Yes, times are hard, and at such times the need to Go for Refuge and to learn from the great teachers becomes stronger than ever.
