...Milarepa’s Life and Victory

The story of Milarepa is a story of determination, transformation and victory in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. After wrecking deadly retribution on his mother’s behalf, Milarepa, now with blood on his hands, saw that he had no choice but to gain Enlightenment in one lifetime. If he failed to do this, he would face terrible consequences at the time of death.

Setting out to accomplish this almost impossible task, Milarepa underwent one of the most gruelling Dharma training regimes ever recounted in the Buddhist tradition, a training that almost broke him. Yet he prevailed, even above the snowline of the Himalayas, clad only in a thin cotton robe. Among the galaxy of Buddhist saints, Milarepa’s star shines as one of the brightest, his teachings and life example are as vital now as they ever have been.

Alongside puja, meditation, friendship and discussion, Jnanavaca will draw from the stories of Milarepa's life to illustrate the perennial truths they contain and their relevance to the challenges and victories of our own spiritual lives.

The retreat starts with dinner on the first day at 6:30pm and finishes on the final day at 10.00am
