Going for Refuge Weekend: Turning to the Creative Mind

The mind is absolutely central to all Buddhist practice. Without training and taming the mind, there is no possibility of Going for Refuge and following the Path. But the mind, as the Buddha tells us, "is frivolous and difficult to control, alighting on whatever it pleases." That's why he stresses the need to tame the mind, for "A tamed mind brings bliss". Above all, we need, as Sangharakshita says, to make "the transition, we may say, from reactive mind to creative mind". This is, he says, "the beginning of the spiritual life...” the “turning around, in the true sense". The true revolution in the base of the mind.

This weekend, we will look into this as fully as we can, through the study of Sangharakshita's seminal work, Mind – Reactive and Creative

Coming on retreat

Coming on a retreat at Padmaloka is a step into another way of being, where we temporarily take up a way of life that is more supportive of Buddhist Practice. We go forth from our ordinary circumstances, our comforts and distractions so that we can discern and move towards our ideals and help others to do so as well. When booking a retreat at Padmaloka it is important to get a sense of how you will be living here - what our customs, etiquettes and requirements for being on retreat are.
